Evolution of Games Development

The evolution of games development is beginning to change.  I have conducted some research to get a basic starting point on a  macro scale.

I have dissected the games industry as a whole and took into perspective, each different section of the market with regards to platforms.

I found after some research that as a whole the portable gaming market has been demonstrating significant growth.  Peter Fargo has said, "With these figures, our main finding is that iPhone (and iPod touch) is a gaming platform to be reckoned with".  This also indicates the iPhones ever growing impact on these above figures.

Below is an image indicating the iPhones growth from the years of 2008 - 2009:

After conducting further research, I also found figures detailing the more recent impact mobile gaming has generated.  Below is a diagram outlining my findings:

Taking this into consideration I began looking on a more broad scale and looked at the portable consoles stake in the overall gaming market.  I found that over the past few years, portable gaming has seen a steady increase in sales and gained further ground on the console market.

This may be a link with the recent growth of the Apple iPhone (Detailed above).  But it is also likely linked with the influx of Indie titles onto the games market.  Below is a diagram explaining the portable gaming share on the general gaming market:

I must now research indie games in more detail whilst also indicating any actual or possible links with the growth of the portable market.
